Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Friday was a historic day for our country – Inauguration Day! Welcome to our 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. We witnessed a peaceful change of power. I ask you to join me in prayer for our new president, his safety, and his tasks ahead as he serves as our Commander-in-Chief. I would also like to thank outgoing President Barack Obama for his service to our country.
We wrapped up our second week of the 2017 legislative session. Things are slow on the House floor, but we are busy working hard in our committees. We are hearing testimony on legislation being introduced, and starting to move those bills forward. Things will start to speed up in the coming days and weeks.
In partnership with the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), I am sponsoring legislation known as the Small Business Employers Bill of Rights. House Bill 1352 seeks to identify what specific rights or protections small business owners have when selected for an audit, inspection, or other agency enforcement action. Once these rights are defined, the state will then set up a process to inform business owners of their rights and protections. This bill is a great example of true bipartisan support. By working together, we will accomplish great things. This bill will soon have a hearing in the House State Government Committee. Stay tuned for more information and the forward progress of this bill.
