Barkis and Rantz discuss pilot program aimed at saving lives on Washington roadways; traffic fatalities at 30-year high

Rep. Andrew Barkis talks with KTTH’s Jason Rantz about his bill to establish a pilot program in Washington for automated highway speed safety cameras. The pilot program would involve collaboration between the Department of Transportation, State Patrol, and Traffic Safety Commission to assess technology effectiveness, study its impact on speeding behavior, and gather public feedback, with ticketing of violators prohibited, notifications sent to vehicle owners instead, and a progress report due by September 30, 2024.

In Washington, traffic fatalities are at a 30-year high.
