Barkis Breakdown: That’s a wrap! Recap of the 2022 legislative session

In this edition of the Barkis Breakdown, Rep. Andrew Barkis, R-Olympia, gives a 2022 legislative session recap under the dome in Olympia — for the first time in two years! He talks about this session going down in history as a one of the most partisan sessions and believes opportunities were missed because of the virtual environment. He highlights a few successes including the supplemental transportation budget and stopping bad landlord-tenant policy. He expresses his worry about the work done on the supplemental operating budget and spending the $15 billion surplus without taking more precautions to save for a rainy day, to put more towards the transportation budget so taxes and fees weren't raised, and to put more toward affordable housing and the supply issue.
