‘Graffiti is overwhelming!’ Rep. Andrew Barkis tells KIRO Radio about his bill to discourage highway graffiti

Rep. Andrew Barkis, R-Olympia, tells KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross and Chris Sullivan about his legislation, House Bill 1989, that seeks to create a graffiti abatement and reduction program within the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

Barkis says graffiti is overwhelming on transportation infrastructure throughout the state and the eye sores are expensive to remove. The 2nd District lawmaker wants to have the WSDOT use cameras to catch graffiti artists for prosecution and to explore using substances that would make it difficult for graffiti to stay on transportation infrastructure.
