Rep. Andrew Barkis, who is intently focused on fixing Washington’s housing crisis, recently sat down with TVW’s Austin Jenkins to discuss the issue. One of the first bills passed by the House this session was Barkis’ HB 1245, which would require cities to allow lot splitting. The 2nd District lawmaker believes splitting underutilized lots would provide a readily available source of new housing at a time when the state faces a deficit of 1.1 million homes by 2044.
